"I Met Michael Emerson in Greenwich Village whilst vacationing in New York, he was on a table outside a restraunt with 3 other people and at first glance i didnt think it was him he had glasses on with round lenses (harry potter style) and a purpley red silk jacket on, anyway i stopped and took a more positive look and walked over and asked him "are you henry gale from lost" his delightedful response was "yes what do you want to know", I responded with "seriously?" because i was kinda amazed at the situation with me being a big fan of lost and ive just stumbled upon one of the most important cast members to be. Again he said "yes, i did 2 part episodes" i replied by saying "it was longer than a 2 part episode" (Dont know what a 2 part episode is) he responded quickly to me one of the most weirdest coincedince's ive every come across "Are you watching the season 2 finale tonight" then it only just occured to me that i remember seeing a banner in Times Square with the date and time of the finale on that night (Weird or what)...The guy's a minter (took time out to ignore his friends and talk as well as get a pic with.)" lostwiki.abc.com/page/Henry+Gale/thread/347331/Meeting

Hmm. An old costar of Michael's has some not-so-positive things to say: "Seven years ago, I created one of the roles in an original Off-Broadway play called Gross Indecency: the Trials of Oscar Wilde. The play was about a bunch of gays gaying it up in Victorian England and, alas, I played one of the gays. My character's name was Lord Alfred Douglas and I ran around the stage every night looking at my pocket watch, puckering my a**hole inside my tweed pants, and weeping inconsolably like a "Flava of Love" cast-off. I had been doing the show for a year and felt frustrated by everything about it. I helped write the show with Moises Kaufman, but got no credit when the show won numerous awards. I read dozens of books on my character and exited the stage every night drenched in the melodramatic snot and tears of a method actor, but got nary an acting nomination. I lost 15 pounds and a hefty portion of my mental health, but exited most shows to uncomfortable looks and silence. The guy playing Oscar Wilde (Michael Emerson from "Lost") phoned it in, fake cried, and got nominated for every acting award in New York City. Through this repetitive collision of jealousies and disappointments, I decided to focus most of my time and attention on getting blotto and getting chicks..." www.billdawes.net/archives/olivia.phtmlI do believe the fake-crying part.

I am a realist. Michael is not a perfect person, not an angel from the sky. He is human. I know. But this person is not a person whom I would trust to be honest and truthful. Did you read the rest of his blog?

This Bill Dawes is a comedian, yes? So perhaps this blog/story is a comic riff? I'll tentatively take it as such, and as such, I sort of see it as a nod to ME. I mean phoning it in and fake crying speaks of someone who is not trying, as in being so gifted it isn't that hard (or doesn't appear to be) for them. I suspect these comments were tongue-in-cheek, perhaps clumsily executed.
Don't we all know or haven't we at sometime been someone who feels slighted when after they try so hard to achieve something, someone else (who is gifted) seemingly swoops by and steals the kudos and the props. Sometimes, it's true, the "gifted" person didn't work that hard, but often, they really did or spent years honing their skills that it now looks they're not trying that hard.
It's hard to admit you've been bested. The wise learn to accept it. The unwise just get bitter. Afterall just because someone is better at their craft/art/profession, that doesn't make them a better person or mean that they will have a better life. It just makes them better at their profession.

btw, i love these posts with personal encounters. I think they help build a picture of the man behind the actor, and I'd say overall the picture is quite complimentary.

Michael is not a perfect person, not an angel from the sky. He is human. I know. But this person is not a person whom I would trust to be honest and truthful. Did you read the rest of his blog? My impression is that Michael is a "nice, good, ordinary guy". They make great husbands (know from experience) but can have their faults. I think Dawes is being honest about how he felt back then. He admits to jealousy and since I tend to be a jealous territorial person myself I can sympathize. At that age it's seems so unfair to work so hard and then watch someone else get all the attention, even if that attention was deserved. Initially none of the actors in this showcase were to get paid (I read). So here he was a young and inexperienced actor working his guts and eyes out to originate this part and contribute to the writing. Then just two weeks before it opens this new guy waltzes into the lead role and he is the one who gets noticed by the critics. When you are young and still believe the world should be fair to you this is a hard lesson to learn. Harder for some. Bill is, of course, forgetting that Michael had been on stage longer than he (Bill) had lived and yet was still an unknown working unpaid. How fair was that? Micheal was mature and dignified (probably showed up in a 3 piece suit the first day ) and this guy was immature and vulgar (and still is to judge from his blog). No wonder they might not have gotten along. Yes, that would be the "act" part of acting wouldn't it? From what I've read of Bill Dawes blog he is self obsessed and crude and he tries to pass that off as humor.

Thank you kiagary! ;D This one is good: "I know a guy on that show. Good family frined and I have some of his original artwork. He started off with a guest appearance (or a couple of them) but hit it off so big they have added him for many seasons to come. I've never watched the show, but he played a guy they thought was one person, but turned out to be another, the head honcho of The Others. I think they are calling him Ben right now. He's always been a fabulous actor and after seeing him struggle for so many years, it's f***ing great to know that he's making mad bank. First time I saw him on stage, he was playing Romeo and I fell madly in love with him. [... I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to think of a good response to this, but... I'll just say I'm madly jealous ] He's also been in The Laramie Project. His name is Michael Emerson. Cool, huh?" theothergraham.livejournal.com/149055.html*Tries to stop drooling* Okay, I know some of you have Livejournal accounts. Could you please, pretty please ask this person to scan or in some way let us see said original artwork?

Nov. 7th, 2006 "While shopping at The Grove today [L.A. mall], I ran into the actor that plays the uber-creepy, leader of "The Others" from "LOST". I usually have an apathetic reaction to most celebrities, but when I saw him, I let out a slightly audible ahhhh! Then, he made eye-contact with me, and I almost broke into a full flee-response! But, I kept composure. Not cool to run through a busy shopping mall screaming "The others are here!" He actually looked friendly, I almost said hello, but I wasn't about to actually touch him! Ahhhh!!!!!!!!!" sunbeam-bears.livejournal.com/10200.html

First of all - do disregard the above post of mine [deleted now]. Other imdb posters took the time to research this guy's history - and he does say similar things about other celebrities; that they have "horrible" breath, etc. Moving on: "March 20 I met him in New York on Thursday and he is an incredibley nice man. Me and a friend were standing at the tkts booth buying tickets for that night. We were in a hurry as it was around 730 and we hadn't really decided what to go and see. My friend was buying the ticket and as I turned around I saw him standing right behind us. I tried to tell my friend but she couldn't hear what I was saying so as we walked away I told her. She found her note pad and we waited for him to buy his tickets. So I went up to him and said "excuse me, you're in Lost aren't you?" He would have been in as much of a hurry as we were but he was really nice, he signed the book for me and I had my picure taken with him. He was asking what we were going to see. As he walked away me and my friend were obviously talking about it and she turned around and saw him smiling at us. I was high all night and I'm so happy I met him. He could have easily said that he was in a hurry and walked away. Really really nice guy and whats more he understood me! Which doesn't happen much in America as I have a geordie accent (north east England)" imdb.com/name/nm0256237/board/flat/68337269Ack! If I ever turned around and saw Michael standing right behind me... I would lose it. Even worse if I turned around to see him smiling at me.
