Michael Emerson will be appearing in the play Every Good Boy Deserves Favor this Thursday night, July 24, at 8:15 p.m. in Chautauqua, New York. Those of you living near the area may want to buy tickets and see him.

OMG I would love to see that. I saw a version with Patrick Stewart in 93' and really enjoyed it.

I wish I could've seen the 1977 version with Ian McKellen and John Wood. Patrick Stewart was also in that one, I think. God, I want to go see it so badly you won't believe it... unfortunately, there's absolutely no way I can go. Ah well...

Bleh, I wish I'd known earlier. I took Monday off already this week and could have taken Thursday instead to make the drive (3 hours). It's a really nice piece as well.
This is a nice amphitheater, well worth it to attend if you can!

Yeah, I wish we'd all known sooner; why doesn't he share these things with Edith for her website? (That's the first place I checked for the info and was surprised nobody knew anything about it.) Maybe he was being cryptic because he didn't want a million Losties mobbing the theatre as it's one night only, plus I understand it's a very quiet, conservative, artsy sort of community that doesn't like noise, traffic, commotion, etc. (My sister spent a summer there taking art classes and makes it sound like a very "Shhhhhh! No running in the halls" type of place. Although the box-office people were very friendly when I called today; uh, I mean *yesterday* ... yikes, it's 2:30 a.m. already!) Anyway, being from "upstate" myself (only 2.5 hours away as it turns out), my ears pricked up when I heard him mention that in the Access Hollywood clip (I had been offline for a few days, so I didn't even see it till the weekend; I totally forgot the nominations were being announced on Thursday!), then started sleuthing on the 'Net to no avail ... till I finally found the vital keyword (Chautauqua!) right under our noses in this article: spicedogs.livejournal.com/306937.html Then I had to call them to find out which play he was in because I couldn't find any cast listings on their schedule on the Web. I've only been there once, for a Monkees concert, and you're right, it's a nice amphitheatre. (And I remember getting the distinct impression even then that the residents weren't too happy about having mobs of fangirls thronging the streets.) So it's ironic to me that this is the first time their theatre company has performed in that very same amphitheatre. (BTW, anybody read their website, especially the history of the institute? Does this utopian community remind anybody else of the ... DHARMA Initiative??? 8:15 indeed!) Hmm, three hours, 8:15 ... Couldn't you leave work a little early? If anybody else here is going, I'd love to meet you. PS: I just checked the ticket page, and "Every Good Boy ..." has been removed from the schedule, which means it must be getting close to sold out! That's 5000 seats! I'll bring my camera and a picture for him to autograph just in case, but I'm not getting my hopes too high of getting anywhere near Michael.

Oh whoever goes, we want reports and pictures. I think Michael Emerson fans wouldn't be the squealy teeners that some pop and rock stars get. We're a civilized bunch, aren't we.

Michael Emerson fans, yes, but I bet a lot of people will go to see him just because he's on LOST--and nominated for an Emmy. You know autographs are a big business on eBay. (BTW, I just updated my post above; see the "PS.")

I will definitely give a full report, even if it's only a review of the play and a report on how crowded it was! (But I hope it's more than that.) So if I'm gonna *try* to approach him, and he doesn't just happen to be strolling down the street (I'd love to go to that brown-bag thing at noon, but they said that theatre only holds 270 people, and she made it sound like it was definitely going to fill up, and then if I can't get in--after having paid $9 just to get into the town before 4 p.m.--that's eight hours to kill in what seems like a very expensive area, if my back doesn't kill me first!) ... What do you suggest I say to ... who? an usher? "Tell him I'm a member of the Michael Emerson fan board"? "Tell him Edith sent me"? Umm ... What's best? (I've met a bunch of famous people, but I've never been very good at it; I'm sure you can't tell from my rambling posts here, but I get tongue-tied very easily.) Of course, there's always that "block party" afterwards, but if it's my mom who ends up going with me, and it looks like it will be, I *know* she's not going to want to stay for that. Thanks for any advice!

I'm a terrible person to give advice on this. If I were ever to encounter Michael, I would almost certainly turn into a dribbling mess of drool, and probably have to run away and hide my head in embarrassment. But I really hope you get to meet him!! So exciting! Definitely mention the Fan Board, if you can!

Good luck in meeting him! And do post a review!
I honestly don't know if I'm more jealous of you getting to see this particular Stoppard piece, or you getting to see Michael perform in it!

Thanks everybody. If I do get to meet him, I'll try to keep my wits about me and say hello from you all. Maybe my mom will pave the way; she's good at making conversation with complete strangers. Wish she'd passed that gene on to me. (It's too bad she's never seen him on LOST or anything ... Ooo, maybe if I stop by early enough, I can drop her off a copy of Law & Order:CI to watch beforehand. She likes those kinds of shows, and that was one of his more awesome performances.) I'd never heard of the play before, but it sounds really interesting from the description and a role Michael should be able to sink his teeth into. And if Brian Murray is the same actor who did the voice of Long John Silver in Treasure Planet, all the better. (I'm fussy when it comes to my Long John Silvers cuz nobody will ever fill Robert Newton's, um, shoe, but he did a great job.) Anyway, I'm excited. (I should be sleeping right now! This looks like a job for Ambien!) I'm borrowing a digital camera; I just hope I can figure out how to work it! I should bring a regular one as a backup. Can't think of anything else, so I'll catch you all on the flip side and let you know how it went! (OMG, Michael is staring at me from my desktop and making me nervous! Time to shut down!) PS: Silly question, I don't know if it's been asked before, and I know it's OT, so feel free to repost to the appropriate place, but I'm curious what theme everybody chose for the forum (I picked the B&W one where he's holding the bunny) and also, if you have a Michael image on your desktop, which one? This is my current one: michaelemerson.net/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=10&pos=2 ... so he's standing right beside my browser window!

As of now, one of us is watching Michael live, in front of her own eyes, at this very moment. Let us let that sink in to the pit of our jealous stomachs.
