I'm literally on the edge of my seat. *holds a megaphone to my mouth*COME ON MOONCOVE WAKE UP PLEASE!!! mooncove.livejournal.com/28595.htmlI suggest that, if you don't have an LJ account and you want to leave a comment to please identify yourself. I hate it when people comment anonymously in my LJ and won't tell me who they are, and I am willing to bet that she would be annoyed as well. Besides, it's common courtesy.

What a thrill to have met him! And of course he was cuter in person! It's so nice that he came out to meet the fans afterward.
I met Paul Gross (you might remember him from Due South or Slings and Arrows) after a performance of Hamlet in Stratford many many seasons ago...and I can tell you that I was on cloud 9 for weeks afterward! Congrats!
I hope Michael performs upstate again in the future!

Oh my, I was busy working on my LJ entry and didn't realize you were all on the edge of your seats over here! Believe me, I was wishing you were all there with me last night! (Good thing I got to meet him so I had something to report to you. As I said, it was very tempting to give in to the nervous terror and just turn and go home after the play; I was so relieved there was a crowd there to blend into! Until I was face-to-face with him, probably looking like a deer in headlights! But then he put his arm around me, and for a few seconds after the photo I had the courage to speak, though I hardly knew what I was saying! I just remember that he was indescribably sweet. (And, yes, very cuddly too.)
As Edith said, please feel free to read and post your comments here or on my journal, and if you don't have an LJ, I appreciate your signing whatever name you use here.
Yes indeed, he struck me as much cuter in person--that's not to say he's not photogenic, but he's even better in 3D; so much so it was a bit startling. It's hard to explain. And it's more than just his looks--he has a definite "presence." And when he looks you in the eye ... well, I found it a real challenge to maintain my composure. (Thankfully, I made it to the top of the steps before I started blurting out to my mom, "He's so cute, he's so cute, he's so cute ..." He makes me feel like I'm 15 again! I totally wasn't expecting that from someone I only fell in love with three months ago. And never expected to meet him already; it all happened so fast, I'm still reeling!)
So I can't be the only person here who's met him, am I?? Anybody else who has, please jump in with your perspectives!

It's so fabulous you got to meet him! And to find out that he's cuddly and even cuter in person! ;D I'm holding out hope I'll eventually get to see him perform on stage, if not meet him. I make regular trips down to NYC so maybe if the stars align...

You might be the first and only person in our community to have met Michael in person. The closest "six degrees of Michael" connection I have is that I talked to a radio host at a Lost season finale party who has interviewed Michael several times. Many of us have been here for over a year or longer, yet you've only been here for a few months and already you've been closer to the man himself than any of us. for you and for the rest of us.

I never met him, but I did live close by him in Iowa before he graduated, I knew he lived there and went to Drake University when I read his BIO. At the time I was going to Olmsted elementary in Urbandale, so I went to see how far that was on the map from where I use to live, I was shocked to find out, Drake university wasn't that far from where we lived. I was only in 5th grade when my parents moved us to West Des Moines, where I went to Rex Mathes Elementary.

Mooncove, when you talk about "presence" I think I have an inkling about what you mean, or at least a take on it. In the small college I attended, almost everybody did everything, (except at that time sports wasn't open so much for women), but I did a lot of stuff: music, art, debate, homecoming committees, and the like, and I got involved in theater enough to know it wasn't for me, despite my background in oratory and the urging of the theater profs.
But there was one theater major who "had it." I never liked him. Beyond being very talented, he was not like Michael at all. He struck me as arrogant and condescending (because he was smart and knew his stuff — but he was at a small college fergossakes, not Juilliard). But when I saw him perform on stage, I saw for the first time what it takes to act. He projected "presence" like I had never seen. He had a minor role and he wasn't overacting but he had so much presence, he blew everyone else off the stage; granted not hard to do for a gifted actor at a small college, but still as amazing to see. I respected him after that, even if I never grew to like him.
But I think, Mooncove, that presence is the same that Michael has. Good actors have this. But on top of that, Michael has charisma. It just blows my mind that having all that, he's so grounded and sweet. That trio of qualities is REALLY rare. Personally, I think by now Michael knows for himself he's very talented, but I think he has the sense not to lord it over others, and by now knows being gifted isn't a guarantee. It sounds like deep at his core he's a charitable human being. And I respect that the most.

I think, each of Michael's fans (I mean - American fans) has real chance to see ÌÅ in a real life. Especially "after Lost" when ÌÅ will come back to the stage

Hiya Mooncove, I'm glad you enjoyed your evening and you're so lucky to have got to meet him afterwards, I would probably have just been mute or ran away! It sounds like a great night.

Many of us have been here for over a year or longer, yet you've only been here for a few months and already you've been closer to the man himself than any of us. for you and for the rest of us. Sorry, I seem to have the gift/curse of beginners' luck, which ends up annoying all my would-be friends! On the other hand, it took me over twenty years to meet my teenage idol, David Warner. But didn't someone here or on LiveJournal just meet Michael in San Francisco and post a photo? I'm sure there's hope for all of us as he seems very accessible, and he won't be gone from the stage long. We just have to keep our ears and eyes open for those cryptic clues he gives if he can't just tell us outright! Hey, that might make a great question for your next collection, Edith; "Could you please keep us apprised of your stage appearances?" (And that hope is not just for American fans. I think someone asked him in an interview I saw on YouTube if he'd ever do theatre in London, and he said he'd love to.) So the end of LOST (i.e., more free time for Michael) could end up being a good thing for us. As for the presence/charisma thing, one of the most interesting analyses I ever read on that phenomenon was on the Michael Sheen message board at the IMDb (yeah, he's got it too!). Go to this page: www.imdb.com/name/nm0790688/board/flat/17571612... and scroll down to about the fourth entry, by lovelight77. What do you think? (It's primal, dude!) In fact, I postulate that stage actors necessarily have more charisma than those who were just "discovered" doing something else and got plopped onto the screen right out of the gate because on the stage you really have to project. Also, I sense you're right, that he really is a generous human being, not just to his fans but to his fellow actors. (Heh, that reminds me ... I could be wrong but I sensed that, while we were waiting for him, the other cast/symphony members were kind of winking to each other/snickering to themselves, like "What did I tell you? He's going to get all the attention, and we'll be ignored." So I think Michael's split second of dismay when he came out might have included a bit of embarrassment.) Looking at pictures and watching him on DVD/YouTube since then, I thought of another possible factor in making him look cuter in person. On TV and in photo shoots, he appears to be wearing make-up, compared to how natural he looked when I met him. (Rowr!)
