I think it's almost safe to say that Terry wasn't there either.

Aw; I listened to 'Radiohead,' yesterday, one of Michael's favorite bands and thought that might've given him luck. PS - I totally missed Michael's reaction to his loss as well... They showed all of the supporting actor nominees on the podium screen. It was the first time I'd seen Michael and I was surprised that he has a serious, poker expression on his face, which he still wore when he didn't win the Emmy. He smiled last year, so I thought either he might've been nervous or was acting in character, as Ben, preparing to speak in character if he won, on stage. I was disappointed that he didn't win because I wanted to hear him talk, but I'm not worried about him not winning, again, this year; Other actors had been nominated several times, and only won a few or just won their first one, so I'm hopeful that Michael will win another one in the future. Maybe it's the story, the episode that is the problem, that doesn't appeal to the Emmy members. Although I love seeing Michael a lot in Ben-centric episodes, I've felt that Ben is much more interesting, and therefore, makes Michael seem like a very good actor, when he's only shown a bit in an episode. I've felt that the writers tried to shove too much of Ben's backstory in the Ben-centric episodes and were pushing too much into a single episode, so it seems cliched and unrealistic. I thought he seemed much more interesting and a better actor in "The Brig," rather than in "The Man Behind the Curtain," and in the Season 4 finale, rather than in the episode where Alex is killed. I disliked the wrap-around camera shot around Ben after Alex was killed; They milked the scene too much and made it too obvious, especially showing another close up. I thought it would've been better if Michael moved, as opposed to the camera, as a wide, still shot, where he stands for a long time, then slowly turns, to face the camera. ;D I loved hearing Don Rickles' jokes and Paul Giamatti's acceptance speech, "This is proof, all you kids at home, that anyone can play the president...anyone can play the president..." Brilliant double entendre! But I hated that they cut off a guy's speech! He won for best writing (for 'John Adams') and was talking about how "These men [of the past] spoke articulately. They spoke in complete sentences..." I was listening to him and they cut him off, going to a commercial!

I just adored Ricky Gervais and Steve Carrell - how the hell Steve keep a straight face during that bit? ;D

Yeah, the video resolution just gives you the idea of faces. I guess it's for the best you can't see. My bet is he was, as he always is, a true professional.

I noted that Ivanek got one of the most louder rounds of applause that whole night- probably because he's guest starred in so many movies and films, he's worked with half the people in that audience by now.

I think, Michael need to change a suit for Emmy's ceremony. This suit from Hugo Boss gives the defeat to Michael ;D

I agree with Snivellusfriend. As a long-time fan of the show, Michael really turned my head in "The Shape of Things to Come" (it's about time I opened my eyes!) as to his great range as an actor, and that scene was really heartwrenching if you've been watching all these years, but I thought the Season 4 finale was much more representative of his character's development and his acting in that was even more amazing than in "Shape."
And I got really upset with them cutting off people's speeches as well. (Apparently, this was the lowest-rated Emmy broadcast ever, and the late-night hosts, especially Craig Ferguson, tore it apart.)
Yeah, I noticed that Michael was totally stone-faced both before and after the announcement ... but that was literally all we saw of him in the entire broadcast. (Do you suppose it was a still photo??) There was no way of telling what his reaction was. Strange.
Greenleaf, I think you're right; that suit was not very flattering on him--it doesn't seem to be cut right or something. But Carrie's dress looked absolutely stunning! Amazing how Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and E! managed to completely shoot around them on the red carpet, isn't it? Were they afraid Carrie would outshine all the divas in that dress? I think she was the best-dressed of all the women I saw there.

OK, I'll be the contrarian here. I do like the suit. I think it drapes around him just right. And while I like the folding and tucking (I forget the actual term for it ) on Carrie's dress, and the colors work well, the bust/bodice doesn't work for me. It appears to be designed for someone with a more substantial bosom. But overall it certainly wasn't horrible, and her hair was great in giving her a completely different look.
There were a lot of fabulous gowns this year in what I saw in the hour before. Some years have been real stinkers, but the recent collections I've seen from the designers lately have been great, so maybe a muted economy is forcing people back to classic styling that always works.
Michael and Carrie aren't in that superstar league that would mean gowns from the major fashion houses, they certainly held their own. I see he did go beyond the cuff links and added a lapel pin. Bling!

The announcement is made at about the 2 minute mark of the video. Michael's face is on the second screen to the left, between Danson and Ivanek.
